THE SCENE: Guests of the 61st annual Chrysanthemum Ball found themselves in a Danny Cuellar-designed, rose-embellished wonderland as they made their way through the gallery of the San Antonio Country Club to an al fresco cocktail hour where the energy of an evening to remember was crisp and clear in the early evening air. Under soft ivory twinkle lights and a beautiful autumn sky, elegantly-bedecked ball patrons enjoyed drinks and hors oeuvres as they mixed and mingled in preparation for the night ahead.
THE VIBE: As chimes signaled the beginning of the dinner hour, guests were the picture of elegance as they approached the grand staircase leading to the country club ballroom. To guests delight, hundreds of delicately hand-crafted butterflies decorated this magical space, suspended from the ceiling signaling an evening to remember. In keeping with the evening’s theme, “Give Them Wings,” this divine detail was a perfect welcome to extend to a crowd celebrating a charity based on improving the lives of children in need. Tables were beautifully dressed in elegant orange citron shantung accented with golden Chiavari chairs and place settings which were offset by napkins in the same hue as the table coverings. Each bit of decor was provided by Illusions, a division of the RK Group.
THE CAUSE: The grand total raised for 2015 amounted to over one million dollars to be distributed to 31 children’s charities in Bexar County. In addition to annual grants, a Significant Impact Gift of $750,000 was awarded to Roy Maas Youth Alternatives to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Charity Ball Association. The Charity Ball Association of San Antonio, Inc. is a non-profit organization that supports and enhances the quality of life for the children of Bexar County. The Chrysanthemum Ball has, for 61 years, funded “bricks and mortar” projects to create nurturing environments with permanent value benefitting the minds, bodies and spirits of children in need.
