THE SCENE: The Happening, a gala attended by some of the most active art collectors in Central and South Texas, was again Artpace’s signature event— and this year, it also marked the organization’s 22nd anniversary. The evening’s theme celebrated contemporary art of Mexico City with a Texas flair. Patrons celebrated Artpace under the stars on Main Avenue in downtown San Antonio with a night of dinner and dancing in the street.
THE VIBE: Co-Chairs Patricia and Juan Ruiz-Healy, along with their host committee, set the artful vibe as guests were welcomed to the evening’s cocktail hour. The evening’s honorees, Eugenio López Alonso, President and Founder of Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, and distinguished scholar Carla Stellweg were honored for their talents representing the long, rich history of artists and architects from Mexico. The event also highlighted the esteemed contemporary artists who have passed through Artpace’s programs. The organization plays a role in the community as a dynamic, contemporary cultural arts space where varied perspectives and issues are explored through visual arts, film, music, and performance. The culturally vibrant evening was capped with a Rooftop After Party where guests danced the night away.
THE CAUSE: In addition to serving as one of the season’s hottest tickets in town, The Happening also raised funds for Artpace, a renowned contemporary art space located in downtown San Antonio, Texas, with residencies, exhibitions, and education programs that nurture the freedom to dream. Artpace supports the creative process and engages audiences with the most innovative art and artists from around the world.
