THE SCENE: Two incredible events occurred recently in Austin, drawing celebrities and the social elite to a cause that is near and dear to many. Several hundred supporters raised funds for the Darrell K. Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease, known as the DKR Fund, in the memory of iconic University of Texas football coach. A series of events featured sport, fashion, and as some may say, “The Sport of Fashion.” The first was an annual gala that drew a celebrity crowd, while the second was a fashion show co-hosted by Neiman Marcus and The Society Diaries, with all ticket proceeds going to the DKR Fund.
THE VIBE: Over 300 attendees arrived at the AT&T Conference Center ready for the annual 4th and Goal Gala where the guests donned their best Texas Chic style; cowboy hats blended seamlessly with cocktail attire. Guests were treated to a delicious meal, a live auction that raised over $220,000, and a performance by four of country music’s most prominent singers and songwriters: Paul Overstreet, Brett James, Scotty Emerick and Wendell Mobley. The highlight of the evening was a presentation by Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey, Hall of Fame Golfer Ben Crenshaw, and Mike Myers who presented Edith Royal with a $500,000 donation for the Edith Royal Endowment for Research, Family Support and Education Fund.
The follow-up fundraising marathon continued as over a hundred of Austin’s sociables descended upon Austin’s Neiman Marcus store for a New York Fashion Week-quality fashion show by world-acclaimed designer Roberto Cavalli. The lunchtime affair featured light bites from Capital Grille, along with mimosas and other festive beverages. The fashion show featured Cavalli’s Fall 2016 sportswear collection, curated by the store’s Jennifer Carnes. Special remarks by Ava Late, Neiman Marcus General Manager Chris Hendel, and the magazine’s Lance Avery Morgan offered a perfect complement to the spirit of the organization’s efforts.
THE CAUSE: The 4th and Goal Gala, chaired by Debbie Hanna and Ava Late, and the Roberto Cavalli Fashion Show at Neiman Marcus, chaired by Jamie Chandlee and Jenna Leiker, raised over $1.3 million dollars for the Darrell K. Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding research initiatives of Alzheimer’s Disease throughout the state of Texas.
