What happens when James Bond meets Jackie O? The answer is the gorgeous Pink Panther Holiday Party hosted by Carla and Jack McDonald. Well-heeled guests were treated to an authentic 1960’s experience that would have made Peter Sellers, and French Actress, Capucine, who starred in the original 1963 Pink Panther movie, blush. Upon entering the party, at the home bathed in pink lights, the French-accented Butler offered faux cigarettes as the gateway to the soirée inside, transforming guests to another era.
Jack and Carla McDonald, dressed in a sleek pink chiffon Oscar de la Renta gown, greeted party-goers and once inside, Austinites and assorted out-of-town guests mingled and jingled amongst a pink backdrop of beautiful flowers, flocked trees, period-era cocktails and passed appetizers and a stunning dinner and dessert spread by Word of Mouth Catering that included flambes. As the conversation and drinks flowed, the band played Mancini Music in a room McDonald transformed into a vintage European supper club. The 1963 details were everywhere: magazines of the era everywhere, vintage Shalimar in the powder room, Air France and Transatlantique ashtray’s in the outside smoking patio and Henry Mancini orchestrations.
Many concluded the evening by adjourning to the McDonalds red-laquered library for more champagne, which captured the true essence of the fun and joyous theme of the party. As guests departed, they received petite boxes of pink macarons provided by La Patisserie, leaving guests with a delicious reminder of an evening guests will not soon forget.
