The Contemporary Austin Hosts Camp Contemporary At Austin Museum’s Laguna Gloria

By Rob Giardinelli                     Photography by Brian Fitzsimmons

THE SCENE: Laguna Gloria recently hosted a uniquely Austin experience – an overnight gala. The Contemporary Austin Museum’s Camp Contemporary event brought out hundreds of Austin’s social, cultural and artistic elite for an evening that allowed its patrons to stay overnight in chic, luxe accommodations provided by Shelter Tents. The gorgeous 14-acre Laguna Gloria grounds provided even more fun ahead the next day.

THE VIBE: The glamping-chic crowd began the evening began with a cocktail hour sponsored by Sourced Craft Cocktails where guests had the opportunity to sample signature cocktails created specifically for the event. The festivities continued as the connoisseurs of art and food made their way out to the beautifully rustic, communal tables on Laguna Gloria’s grounds for a Camp Paella Dinner provided by McGuire Moorman Hospitality. After savoring the delicious dinner, the fun continued as campers made their way to the camping area where the fun continued into the wee hours of the morning against the backdrop of Lake Austin.

The following day featured a breakfast courtesy of Le Politique and coffee from Chameleon Cold Brew. Additionally, there were plenty of activities throughout the morning including sunrise yoga with Castle Hill Fitness and Outdoor Voices as well as boating, hammock lounging and the opportunity for guests to create their own art that served as a perfect keepsake from the a one-of-a-kind experience.

THE CAUSE: The event raised funds for The Contemporary Austin Museum, which provides Austin with a world-class spectrum of contemporary art that can be experienced through exhibitions, commissions, education and the museum’s public art collection.
