Texas Top 50 Women To Watch: Monica Taylor of The CE Group
For Monica Taylor, Integrated Communications Director at The CE Group, passion has been the driving force behind her tenured and multi-faceted communications career. From holding positions both in front of and behind the camera, as well as positions that have been community-facing, Taylor is a stand-out in San Antonio no matter the role. Excited to have recently stepped into a new role created for her at The CE Group, Taylor shares on her journey to date, how she serves the community, and the inspiration she draws from her mother to lean into who she is and seize every opportunity she earns with unconditional enthusiasm.
On her career journey:
Thus far, I have had an incredible communications career that was not expected or planned. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate that doors have opened for me when it was the exact right time to walk through them. I have also had the unique opportunity that every job I accepted was a brand–new position that was created for me to fill and make my own. From working with the Spurs, to being in front of the camera anchoring a local morning show, and now back to my public and media relations roots, I have been so blessed that my career has unfolded the way that it has. It truly is an unexpected dream come true.
On what makes her unique in her industry:
I firmly believe in loving what you do and doing it with passion. I pour all of my personality and drive into my work, and that has been the foundation of my continued success. I have had the unique opportunity to see all sides of the communications world in my 20-year career. The number one thing that I have learned is that when you have a passion for what you do, it shines through in your work and allows you to not only build relationships, but to connect authentically with others.
On her passions outside of work:
I love having the chance to serve and connect in the community. I actively serve on the boards of local nonprofits and I lend my communications expertise to many nonprofit organizations and businesses as an emcee and media spokesperson. I also appreciate having the opportunity to mentor young professionals interested in taking the communications path. I believe that you have to create your own path, and that emulating someone else will never allow you to truly flourish and thrive. If you have faith in who you are and in your abilities, there is no limit to what you can become.
On her personal female hero:
All women inspire me in one way or another. With each woman I’ve met or read about, there is a piece of who they are that has helped me build upon who I am now and who I will be in the future. That being said, there is no doubt that my mom is at the top of my list because of her unconditional love, support and understanding. She laid down the foundation for who I am and allowed me to be me. She leads by example and is a constant reminder to always remember where you came from. I would not have become who I am without her in my life.
