Just in time for the start of 2011-2012 academic year, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi celebrated the opening of their new Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center – a state-of-the-art facility that was donated to better accommodate the exponential growth and success of the school’s collegiate tennis program.
The festivities for the grand opening of the center were coordinated by Richard Gallaway Special Events & Design. Celebration began with over 200 guests and numerous news cameras eagerly awaiting the dedication ceremony in honoring Henry. Special guests in attendance were Henry, President of TAMU-Corpus Christi Dr. Flavius Killebrew, and Corpus Christi Mayor Joe Adame and his wife, Kathy. Making the first serve on the new court was Mr. Thomas J. Henry, who was then followed by members of the TAMU-Corpus Christi men’s and women’s Islander tennis team.
Following the sunny dedication ceremony was an exclusive oceanfront cocktail party held the same evening at the private residence of the Henry’s. Guests were greeted with tropical lime vodka cocktails and artful hors d’oeuvres, socializing as the ocean breeze kept them cool. The ambiance of the event was complimented by hues of amber and violet lighting that delicately washed the estate throughout the evening’s party.
Guests enjoyed musical accompaniment provided by Beto and The Fairlanes from Austin, who played on a tented platform that was suspended over the pool. Tables were draped in custom blue, gathered silk that added to the cool ocean feel of the event. Guests exited the Mediterranean estate through a walkway that shone the blue and green colors of the US Open. As parting gifts, guests received custom designed and packaged cans of US Open tennis balls marked with the Center’s logo. This festive evening was one that Corpus Christi-ans will not soon forget.
