The San Antonio German Club hosted its annual Opening German celebration this fall, in honor of the season’s debutantes. Heavily based in tradition, The German Club was formed in 1880 by a group of young men who had originally named themselves the “Ascension Club.”  The name was changed in 1890 to the San Antonio German Club in honor of the popular ballroom dance of the era, “The German.” For the past 132 years, the San Antonio German Club has presented its debutantes during San Antonio’s Social Season.  The 2012-2013 President  is John W. Bucher, Jr. and the Chairman of the Opening German was Clyde Johnson IV.

This year’s Ball was hosted at the historic La Villita Assembly Building in downtown San Antonio. Catering the event was the popular RK Group, and floral designs and decorations were provided by Richard Flowers at The Events Company. Debutantes were presented by their fathers in front of supportive friends and family, and after the presentation, debs and their guests danced the night away to musical entertainment provided by bands Mr. Fabulous and Ice House, and DJ Jen and Juice. This year, like every other, has a stunning group of women who made their bow.
