We at The Society Diaries love events where the crowd is well-heeled, the conversation and cocktails flow freely and a lot of money is raised for a very worthy cause. Like this year’s Dancing with the Stars at the Hilton hotel in downtown Austin which achieved this trifecta. Austin’s version of the popular ABC television series drew in over 1,000 attendees and raised over an astonishing $800,000 for The Center for Child Protection.
The event co-chaired by the dynamic duo of Mary Tally and Maria Groten, along with honorary chairs Kelly & Ronda Gray, really outdid themselves this year, featuring a performance line-up as diverse as Austin including Sociables, artists, educators and physicians.
The event began with a cocktail reception where VIP’s mingled and jingled and several of the performers came out (with robes covering their costumes, of course) to thank supporters for attending. Guests then adjourned to the ballroom where guests took their seats and the evening’s festivities began, which included a spirited live-auction as well as a heart-warming tribute to professional dancer Danny Davila before Austin’s 11 dancing stars took to the ballroom and thoroughly entertained the crowd with passionate performances. After the performances, guests then voted and determined this year’s winner – Andra Liemandt, Drummer for The Cover Girls, with the Mirror Ball Trophy, after which guests flooded the dance floor and danced the night away capping off yet another spectacular DWTS gala.
