THE SCENE: Over the course of 10 days the ninth annual Fashion X Austin drew a stunning array of fashionistas, Sociables and philanthropic leaders that represented the many creative sides of Austin. Throughout the events we were reminded of the tremendous, emerging fashion talent not just in our own backyard, but also across the state and beyond.
THE VIBE: With the wide range of shows and festivities during Fashion X Austin, there was an event for any type of fashion palette, from fanny packs to black tie. The week began with the Screen Queens TV show premiere hosted by Cheryl Bemis that featured Anne Hudson Andrews and Holly Mills Gardner. Then it was onto the legendary Driskill Hotel for the first annual Moda X Mexico, where the formally dressed crowd was treated to a series of collections by emerging Mexican designers flown in especially for this event.
With boutique trunk shows happening all week, the action then turned to the JW Marriott for three evenings of incredible fashion, style and philanthropy. Each night 700 of Austin’s most well-known fashionistas were treated to one stunning collection after the other which, in addition to the top Austin-based designers, also featured talent from Houston, Dallas, and six alumni designers from the hit Lifetime show Project Runway. During the course of each of these evenings, philanthropic Austinites known for their tremendous style were honored. The week of fashion was capped off by a Sunday brunch at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams in the Domain Northside. The 2017 Style Setter honorees were Ana Ruelas on Thursday evening, A.J. Bingham and Cassie LaMere on Friday evening, Andra Liemandt on Saturday evening and Ava Late at the Sunday brunch. A portion of ticket proceeds for each of the final four events benefitted each Style Setters’ choice.
THE CAUSE: Fashion X Austin is the brainchild of Matt Swinney. Proceeds honoring Thursday’s style setter Ana Ruelas benefitted Ballet Austin. A portion of the proceeds honoring Friday’s style setters Cassie LaMere and A.J. Bingham benefitted The Center For Child Protection and Young Men’s Business League Austin Sunshine Camps respectively. A portion of the proceeds honoring Saturday’s style setter Andra Liemandt benefitted The Kindness Campaign. A portion of the proceeds from Sunday’s brunch honoring Ava Late benefitted the Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease.
