PASSIONATE PURSUITS

Houstonian Mica Mosbacher is a force with which to be reckoned. Her passions drive her. Literally. She has an affinity for professional motorsports racing with her family’s Godstone Ranch Motorsports, a team that competes in the Grand Am class to raise awareness for the American Heart Association campaign Hands-Only CPR.

As an Honorary Consul of Iceland, Houston and Central Texas that complements her Scandinavian roots, Mica’s position involves promoting Icelandic culture and trade opportunities, as well as protecting the rights of Icelandic citizens. She’s also a recent recipient of the Order of St, John, appointed by Her Majesty The Queen, which supports the St. John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem.  Here Lance Avery Morgan catches up with her to learn more about what makes her heart race, too.

My style icon is… Lynn Wyatt because she is timeless and classic in her fashion choices. Also, designer Carolina Herrera, who knows what works best on her figure. Her style stays consistent without following trends.

My personal mantra is… when in doubt… don’t.

My astrological sign is… Cancer and Leo, so I have dual natures of fire and water. I like tranquility and the water whether it’s an ocean, lake or bathtub. My fiery nature helps fuel my passion to make the world a better place.

My guilty pleasure is… an escape to Cal-a-Vie Spa in Vista, California. The 6 AM hikes are invigorating and the environment very healing.

The most underrated notion is…the words I am sorry for your loss. I also think a hug always conveys understanding, or at the very least, concern.

Beauty or brains? Beauty comes from a loving heart and the character of a person shows on her face.  Hard work and focus trumps beauty every time.

Fantasy artist to paint your portrait? John Singer Sargent, as he is my favorite American portrait artist.  The photographer Timothy Greenfield Sanders once photographed me imitating Madame X in the photo. That’s the closest I’ll come to my fantasy.

The first record I bought was Love Me Do by the Beatles in 1962. It was a vinyl record and I danced to it in my bedroom.

My dream lunch date is… having a picnic on the beach on a remote island in the Abaco islands, Bahamas. My late husband Bob Mosbacher was a world champion sailor and we often cruised in the Bahamas. In fact, we honeymooned in Lyford Cay.

My weekend go-to outfit is…a pair of 7 for Mankind skinny jeans with a top by Haute Hippie or sweater by Naeem Khan… and leather motorcycle jacket.

The thing I am eyeing next is…a pair of black leather Valentino boots with bows up the back.

My signature accessory is…my Patek Philippe watch as it tells time but is “timeless” and Chanel lipstick. I’m from the South and I feel better with a little makeup.

My hidden talent is… singing and acting. Performing on Broadway was on my bucket list and I had a walk on in Mama Mia in 2010 and 2012, and will do it again in. 2014.

The subject that causes me to rant is…several. Politics, religion money and taxes always seem to spark lively dinner table conversations.

On my tombstone it will say… My daughter-in-law Brittanie Duncan said that my tombstone will read She made waves. I suppose it will say, to include my late husband, Bob, He loved to sail, she made waves and together they made a difference.
