THE SCENE: A recent Saturday evening in Austin was the perfect setting to celebrate 30 years of Mexican art in the region. Mexic-Arte’s Gala Del Museo event wowed its attendees by creating an evening full of fantastic music, food and festivities. The highlight was honoring a living legend, the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for The Humanities, Dr. Guadalupe Rivera-Marín, daughter of Diego Rivera, the most prolific Mexican painter of the 20th century.
THE VIBE: Upon arriving to the foyer of The Four Seasons ballroom, the guests, prepared for a good time, were treated to a cocktail hour al fresco that featured Patron cocktails and a mariachi band for a special touch of Mexi-elegance.
The ballroom doors opened for the evening’s program, helmed by Master of Ceremonies Dr. John Hogg, which in addition to honoring Dr. Marín, included two musical performances by world-renowned artist Astrid Hadad. This anniversary celebration was capped off by an after-party where the merry celebrants danced the night away to tunes spun by DJ Soto el Tiburon.
THE CAUSE: The evening, chaired by the musuem’s supporters Dr. John Hogg and David Garza raised funds for Mexic-Arte, which provides cultural enrichment, education, presentation and promotion of traditional and contemporary Mexican, Latino and Latin American art and culture.
