When Eric Copper sent the invitation for an event he was hosting, he knew his
guests were in for a treat. In fact, when the evening ended, guests proclaimed unanimously, “Wow, what a night!” The venue, Chez Z in Austin, was provided by proprietor Sharon Watkins, who also contributed light bites and cocktails including the eponymous Coppertini, named for the host.
Copper assembled two of the state’s finest performers for the evening’s entertainment. Craig Hella Johnson, founder of Conspirare, the Grammy Award-winning assemblage of mighty musical voices, performed the evening’s theme, Sing Me To Heaven. Champagne chanteuse Mela Dailey joined Johnson as they belted out tunes all evening long, ranging from classical arias to show tunes, classics from the Great American Songbook and familiar patriotic standards.
As longtime friends mingled with new acquaintances that evening, a kindred bond was formed thanks to host-with-the-most Eric Copper, who brought the group together and provided the extraordinary spirit of the evening.
