THE SCENE: The American Cancer Society recently presented the inaugural Cattle Baron’s gala “Baron’s Award” to two deserving recipients in the San Antonio community. The award, given to both a medical professional and a corporate citizen for their contributions in the fight against cancer, was presented at the patron’s party, a private event held at the IBC Medical Center Ballroom.
THE VIBE: The 2015 Baron’s Award presentation honored Dr. Roger M. Lyons, M.D., F.A.C.P. and C.H. Guenther & Son, Inc. Dr. Lyons is a hematologic oncologist and a founding physician with Cancer Care Centers of South Texas (CCCST). He is also Medical Director of Hematology for the U.S. Oncology Network. He has been published extensively in the area of blood cancers and has been listed repeatedly as one of the “Best Doctors in America.” C.H. Guenther & Son, Inc., founded in 1851, has partnered with the American Cancer Society as a proud sponsor of the Cattle Baron’s Gala for over 15 years and has under-written many projects involving pediatric cancer patients. Each recipient will again be recognized at the Cattle Baron’s Gala at Rio Cibolo Ranch.
THE CAUSE: Ryan Berg of Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry was the Chair of the Baron’s Award Committee. The American Cancer Society’s efforts have contributed to a 22% decline in cancer death rates over the past 20 years. It is the nation’s largest private non-profit investing in cancer research.
