Theming, Tickets and Sponsorships, Oh My! How To Be A Part Of The San Antonio Library Foundation’s Raved – About Catrina Ball

by Eleanora Morrison

The San Antonio Public Library Foundation will honor La Catrina (AnaPaula Watson) and El Catrín (Rick Liberto) at their second annual Catrina Ball on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Central Library in support of the San Antonio Public Library Foundation and the Latino Collection and Resource Center.  This year, Co-Chairs Heather de Rojas, Amy Garcia and Xitlalt Herrera-Salazar are planning a celebration of the Aztec beginnings, present-day traditions, and future inspirations of Día de Muertos and the Tricentennial of our beloved San Antonio.

The Catrina Ball, a moving fiesta within our landmark Central Library, includes gourmet Mexican street food, music, performances, libations, a community Altar to honor those souls that have passed, ending with a DiscGlowTeca Dance after party around Dale Chihuly’s Fiesta Tower sculpture. Guests are encouraged to don their dramatic Día de Muertos makeup, lush flower crowns, and Catrina or Catrín attire for this evening of festivities evoking the feel of an elegant street party.

Part of the proceeds from the event support the Latino Collection and Resource Center’s Education and Outreach Programs for children and adults and rotating gallery exhibitions. Sponsorship contributions will be everlasting in their impact, helping the Library maintain a dynamic and lively Latino center for the San Antonio community.

An added benefit to top-level El Santo and Veladoras sponsors this year are exclusive invitations to an event at Neiman Marcus with celebrated photographer Annie Leibovitz on December 18 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Sponsorship contributions will enable the Library Foundation to continue to provide essential support and deliver new technology, programming, materials and awareness to the Library system.

Attire inspiration can be found at at, and on the Library Foundation’s social media pages. Peruse the Catrina Ball album on the San Antonio Public Library Facebook page (@SAPLF), follow them on Instagram (@sapubliclibraryfdn) and search #catrinaball.

This event will sell out quickly, so be sure not to miss the opportunity to support the SAPLF and purchase tickets. Sponsorships and tickets are available at
