Houstonian Joy Saxton, an Austin native, knows a thing or two about living a stylish life. Here, she shares her favorite things as we more learn about her book, Joy and the Far Away Land (available at JoySaxton.com and Amazon) as her longtime pal Lance Avery Morgan catches up with her.
I wrote my book because… It’s based on a true story of when I traveled to Russia during the Cold War as a child, with a performing arts troupe called Peace Child. I want to spread a message of love, joy and friendship to children everywhere and I have been going into the schools teaching kids to love another.
Three words that people would think to describe me based on my Instagram feed are…Inspiring, creative and compassionate.
My style icon is…The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
Last thing I marathoned that I recommend is…Velvet, a Spanish TV series on Netflix, about one of the most prestigious fashion houses in Spain in the 1950s.
A beauty must-have you’d have to pry out of my dead cold hands is…My lipstick brush to shape my lips and make them a bit fuller.
If I could live in a foreign city, it would be…Medellín, Colombia because of the breathtakingly beautiful country and its exciting culture around the Amazon tropical rainforest.
My mother, celebrity photographer Gray Hawn, taught me the work ethic that matters most is…Perseverance. She exemplified this when she launched her career over 40 years ago, by talking her way into the palace and was granted a portrait session with Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco.
One thing I am exceptionally good at that most might not know is…Managing people, and I learned this by running my own business, The Joy Kids Studio.
A celebrity I would prank phone call and what I would ask them is…Ellen DeGeneres, and I would ask if we could meet for coffee.
In my fridge you will always find…Kale and berries because I make a health shake every morning with the NutriBullet blender.
My perfect day would end with…My husband, Bruce, and two rescue pups, Tinker Bell and Peter Pan, watching a movie on the couch.
