We Texans don’t wait for the leaves to change to get in the spirit of a seasonal change. In fact, we want our hands on everything gold this autumn. Houstonian Elizabeth Wilhite gathers some local tastemakers’ treasures as she shows up savvy with the right touch of metallic lustre.

Jennifer Welker of Golden Thread

1. How did you get started in jewelry design?

I’ve tapped into my type-A, high-energy, adrenaline-junkie, ICU-nurse personality to help me launch my dream jewelry business. It was intimidating at first, starting my own line and taking the leap from one career to the next. I work hard, study, and ask others for help.

2. What inspires you when you are creating your pieces?

Inspiration is everywhere. My husband Ellis and I love to travel. We journey to London and Paris frequently, seeing some of the most iconic and influential architecture. The clover shape in the charms on our new bangles and earrings is timelessly inspired by Big Ben and the Louvre.

3. What is your must-have item for fall 2014?
By far, my Signature Diamond Bangle with Initials is a must. Mine represents my husband and two children. It is the most meaningful piece I wear and I never take it off.

4. How did you pick the name Golden Thread?
I have always had an obsession with delicate, everyday pieces of jewelry. Necklaces. Bracelets. Rings. I chose the name because I wanted the look to be as dainty as a “thread”and thus the name was born, leaving the door open to golden possibilities outside the accessory world.
