THE SCENE: The Southwest School of Art recently marked its 50th anniversary with a fabulous night under the stars at the Golden Gala in the Garden. The grand evening took a cue from the legends and lore of James Bond, complete with the Goldfinger cinematic touch of an Aston Martin on display for this very special night.

THE VIBE: The high energy was palpable as guests arrived for the event. Enjoying the continuation of the previous night’s Gala Art Sale Preview, guests sipped cocktails -shaken, not stirred for some – while strolling through the stunning Coates chapel to view the various works of art available for purchase. Fabulous décor, lighting, music and, of course: a sumptuous meal provided by Club Giraud all set the tone for a perfect al fresco evening. Following the limited edition raffle and brief auction, the festivities continued late into the night as the after party sponsored by Neiman Marcus San Antonio put the finishing Midas touch on an already-stellar gala.

THE CAUSE: The event’s co-chairs were Gloria and Miguel Dilley and Kristin and Dick Tips. The mission of The Southwest School of Art (SSA) is to teach, preserve and advance the visual arts. [The school expands] the creative potential of its community and connects cultures of the world through participatory learning experience. [The school preserves] the former Ursuline Convent and Academy as a place of historic significance.
