Growing up in the war-torn country of Eritrea in northeast Africa, Nardos Imam had very limited exposure to fashion, yet she dreamt of becoming a fashion designer since childhood. As a child, she would look through her mother’s old Vogue pattern books for inspiration for her own designs, which she created by using the scraps from her mother’s work room. At the age of 25 Nardos enrolled in El Centro College in Dallas where she developed a skill for costume design that later developed into a passion for designing wedding gowns. Today, her collection has grown to include evening and cocktail dresses and she handcrafts every detail of her gowns to bring them to life, adding select high-end fabrics, custom beadwork and jewels that are hand-selected from around the world. Nardos also recently opened a new boutique in tony Victory Plaza. Shop in person or online at

Summer is fading fast, yet thanks to Simply Glowing, your tan doesn’t have to disappear with the season. Founded by Kari Lord, the sunless tan solution is formulated with FDA approved Dihydroxyacetone, known as DHA. DHA is a simple sugar that reacts with the protein in the epidermis layer of the skin. The specially formulated solution was designed to avoid orange tones, so the result is a completely natural-looking tan. Simply Glowing has many celebrity devotees including Candace Romo, Tiffany Hendra from The Real Housewife of Dallas and fashion bloggers Courtney Kerr and Tori Gonzales. Celebrate your love of the tan with one of Lord’s adorable tees, too, with multiple designs on her website. Simply Glowing operates out of Era Salon in Highland Park and Reign Salon in Southlake.
