THE SCENE: Neiman Marcus Austin was recently the scene of an evening of fun, fashion and philanthrophy. The first annual Fab Five, celebrating the store’s The HeART of Fashion, was a collaboration between The Society Diaries magazine and Neiman Marcus to honor five stylish women in Austin…with the proceeds benefitting some of Austin’s top cultural organizations. Guests were greeted by Neiman Marcus’ general manager Chris Hendel and The Society Diaries’ Lance Avery Morgan, as they all enjoyed bites from The Capital Grille, as well as an assortment of cocktails. After honoring the Fab Five and their outstanding achievements, the event was capped off with an extravagant fashion show featuring 40 stunning fall looks, many featuring the fall seasons hottest colors, which we like to call 50 shades of gray and green.
THE VIBE: “Who are you wearing?” was the phrase often quoted by the recently departed comedic legend and host of E!’s Fashion Police host Joan Rivers as celebrities donned the red carpet at various award shows. This Fab Five all made our Best Dressed list for not only their individual style, but also their vast contributions to the city’s cultural presence. The five dynamos were: Ava Late, representing Ballet Austin, Melba Whatley, representing The Contemporary Jones Art Center, Laura Matz, representing Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum, Lauree Moffett, representing Women’s Symphony League of Austin, and Mary Tally, representing ZACH Scott Theatre.
THE CAUSE: The proceeds from ticket sales to the fashion show event benefitted several of Austin’s best known artistic organizations including Ballet Austin, The Contemporary Jones Art Center, Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum, Women’s Symphony League of Austin and ZACH Scott Theatre. We look forward to seeing who next year’s Fab Five organizations and representatives will be, too.
