Iva Tomova, daughter of Radka and Marin Tomov of Varna, Bulgaria, and Javier Medina, son of Lupita and Armando Medina of San Antonio, Texas, had been dating about four years when they took a trip to South Africa together. Javier and Iva fell for the stunning landscapes and lush vineyards. In fact, when Javier popped the question in a vineyard in Stellenbosch; they loved the place so much that they decided to get married there the following summer.
The rehearsal dinner was held at the renowned Delaire Graff venue, where stunning floral décor, featuring local details like South African king protea blossoms, contributed to the naturally beautiful setting for 60 guests. Guests flew in from Moscow, Almaty, Angola, Dubai, Abu Dabi, Sydney, and of course, Bulgaria. Among the couple’s friends and family, notable attendees included many major international business leaders. The cosmopolitan vibe was felt as everyone celebrated the couple’s special moments, planned by Wedding Concepts of Cape Town South Africa.
The wedding was held at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church. The church, which once served as South Africa’s oldest wine cellar, is steeped in history and ambiance that was perfect for the couple’s vows. Iva was attended by Maid of Honor Lacey Aston, and bridesmaids Anna Hawkins, Jade Bludau, Sonya Medina Williams, and Marcella Medina. Javier was attended by his best man Armando Medina, Michael Wheeler, Ravi Manglani, Berik Zhakiyanov, and Kuanysh Shaikenov. The bride wore a stunning gown by Monique Lhuillier, and shoes by Jimmy Choo. The theme for the wedding was white and soft neutral tones with a touch of blush. Floral designs featured imported white orchids and roses, which added to the soft romantic look for the nuptial celebration. After the couple exchanged vows, they made their exit in a vintage cream-colored Rolls Royce, and then the celebration continued with a reception at the MolenVliet Oosthuizen Family Vineyards.
Every detail was personalized for the couple, from the sophisticated Old-Fashion cocktails and South African Mojitos to the distinctive menu showcasing some of South Africa’s unique food elements. Guests dined among panoramic views of the incredible landscape, adjacent to the famed Pinot Noir vines of the historic vineyard. The entire property was reserved exclusively for the couple to enjoy with their close friends and family. Guests danced all night to the music by Ike Mortiz band, which took a pause from their European tour to perform at the wedding. Music is important to the couple, so they also brought DJ Martin (originally from Ireland) who performs at Cle’ and a few other famous spots in Houston, to spin tunes late into the night.
The bride, a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines and the groom, a graduate of the University of Texas, both work in the oil and gas industry in Houston, where they will continue to reside as they begin their life in matrimony. With global ambitions, they plan to travel to three continents in the next year, with destinations including New Zealand, Colombia and Iva’s family home in Bulgaria for additional wedding celebrations with Iva’s family and friends. But first, the newlywed couple ventured to the St Regis Resort in Mauritius for their honeymoon. They chose the island as a destination for its beauty and to disconnect from civilization…and enjoy each other’s company.
