THE SCENE: Austin Film Studios was the place to be for an evening where several hundred guests gathered to honor the incredible breadth of Texas talent that has made an indelible mark on the film industry. The recent 17th Annual Texas Film Awards had it all, honoring a range of talent from the up and coming to the established and iconic.
THE VIBE: The Sociable and celebrity crowd mingled seamlessly. Guests wore a combination of Texas-chic and high cocktail attire, with everyone feeling right at home in such a welcoming environment. Honorees and VIPs sauntered down the red carpet before joining in the crowd of adoring film fans who gave their congratulations for leaving a lasting impact on the film industry. The evening then turned from the meal catered by the Four Seasons Hotel to the program that featured a robust live auction that raised well into the six figures.
The evening then shifted to the main event to honor those who have left their indelible mark on Texas Film. This year’s honorees included Hector Galán who received the Ann Richards Award, producer Sarah Green, filmmaker Jeff Nichols and Rising Star award recipient Tye Sheridan. Oscar-winning legend Shirley MacLaine was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award and also accepted The Star of Texas Award on behalf of one of the films for which she received an Academy Award for Best Actress, Terms of Endearment.
THE CAUSE: The event, chaired by Suzanne Court and Lesya Milam, raised over $700,000 dollars for the Austin Film Society, which provides programs to build a world-renowned film community by supporting filmmakers and promoting film culture.
