THE SCENE: Contemporary art supporters were attired in their chic Eastern wear for attendng Artpace’s annual Happening fundraiser in San Antonio recently. Glamorous and intriguing Shanghai in a bygone heyday served as the theme for an evening celebrating the international scope of the art organization’s reach.
The Vibe: The Happening kicked off with signature cocktails as guests gathered under floating, decorative lanterns at sunset. Overlooking the city’s shimmering skyline, Artpace enthusiasts enjoyed libations amidst an Eastern cultural flair. Adding a mysterious twist to the evening, dancing dragons gathered amidst the cocktail hour and led guests to a subterranean dinner in an undisclosed location. Post-banquet, the event’s theme delivered when guests were thrown into the swing of things to groovy rhythms as they danced on the Artpace rooftop beneath the moonlight into the wee hours of the morning.
The Cause: The annual Happening fundraiser was co-chaired by Lori Dunlap and Lora Reynolds and supports the residents, exhibitions, and education programs of Artpace. The mission of the organization is to nurture the freedom to dream, through supporting the creative process and engaging audiences with the most innovative art and artists from around the world. Due to the visionary Artpace leadership, San Antonio now serves as an international laboratory for the creation and advancement of contemporary art. Sponsors for the event included Cinco Vodka, Ken Batchelor Cadillac, The Esquire, and Neiman Marcus San Antonio.
