THE SCENE: This high profile philanthropic gathering celebrated the 25th anniversary of Baylor College of Medicine’s Huffington Center on Aging. Huffington Center only throws events every five years, and this much- awaited evening honored three prominent Houston families spanning several generations for their generous support and good works in the Houston community. Joan Lyons, Ted and Stacey Lyons, Greg and Linda Lyons Brown, the Jaleh and Bruce Sallee Family and Margaret Alkek Williams, Charles Williams and Randa Duncan Williams were all introduced to standing ovations for their accomplishments with the Center.
THE VIBE: Cool weather greeted the sold-out black tie crowd at the River Oaks Country Club. The luxurious room décor kept with the ornate and lush invitation of golds and burgundies, with red roses and gold magnolia leaf centerpieces.
THE CAUSE: The event was chaired by Donatella and Fred Benckenstein, Mehrnaz and Ned Gill, Betty and John Hrncir and Bain Pearson and John Pitts along with Honorary Chairmen Terry Huffington, Dr. Ralph Dittman and Michael Huffington. The lavish event brought in over $471,000 to support the Huffington Center on Aging’s mission to improve the quality of lives of people as they age by funding new faculty, pursuing research into longevity, reproductive aging and metabolism. Mistress of Ceremonies Jan Carson led the evening.
