The 42nd Annual Witte Game Dinner took place “Deep in the Heart of Texas” in San Antonio this past fall, on the grounds of the Witte Museum in front of the Robert J. and Helen C. Kleberg South Texas Heritage Center. The annual dinner is the Witte’s is the museum’s most beneficial fundraiser. This South Texas casually stylish event featured cuisine from the RK Group, lively entertainment by Asleep at the Wheel, and exciting live and silent auctions. Honorary Chairs of the event were Kim and Rod Lewis, and the dinner’s chairs were Gloria and Miguel Dilley. This year’s MC was Richard Bennett and the auctioneer was Rick Shaw.
The tradition of the Witte Game Dinner began nearly 42 years ago, when area sportsmen and hunters were asked to clear their game lockers and donate personal hunting trophies to the Witte for a barbeque and party on the museum’s grounds. Since then the net proceeds from this event have helped the Witte continue its tradition of providing visitors from South Texas with innovative programs in history, science and culture enriching lives and promoting a lifelong legacy of knowledge. This includes a special emphasis on interactive educational programming for children, in addition to providing scholarships for disadvantaged children in the San Antonio area. Due to the support of generous South Texas families, the Witte Museum continues to add value to the community and represents the rich traditions of the diverse culture of South Texas.
