THE SCENE: A dynamic and powerful group of 470 guests packed into Hotel Zaza’s sold-out ballroom for the Touchdown for TEACH (To Educate All Children).Special guest Terry Bradshaw, interviewed by Spencer Tillman (accompanied by his wife Rita Tillman), entertained the supporters who enjoyed his many personal and football stories about winning four Super Bowls and being in the Football Hall of Fame.
THE VIBE: The theme was football, but the vibe of the event was forward- thinking educational progress. Questions for Bradshaw ranged from the importance of education and a good teacher to his personal life. He held the audience’s rapt attention with many moments of the the entire ballroom laughing and applauding. To raise additional funds at the event, guests waved the Terrible Towels, a rally towel used by the Pittsburgh Steelers, which was a fun addition to a well-executed event.
THE CAUSE: Co-founders Susan D. Krohn and Mary Yenik, event chairs Carol and Mike Linn and DeeDee and Wallis Marsh were thrilled by the huge success of the event which raised close to $450,000 for the program that works with HISD schools to give educators strategies to more effectively work with their most challenging students in often difficult environments. The TEACH organization will net the entire amount raised thanks to Fayez Sarofim who underwrote the entire event.
