The Octavia Art Gallery recently hosted a gathering to launch its pop-up art show in collaboration with curator Alice Carrington Foultz at the historic Roosevelt Library in San Antonio. The show will run through August 13 and the exhibition curated by Foultz, Summer Solstice, combines the works of artists represented by the gallery, as well as several local San Antonio artists.
Foultz’s inspiration for the show were the scents, sounds, intensity of light and contrasting temperatures experienced during the summer months and says, “These artists have captured the stillness of a hot summer afternoons or the coolness of swimming pools, green golf courses, and forest canopies. Abstractions of blue water also find their way into the mix.” The show features paintings and sculptures by Wayne Amedee, Waddy Armstrong, Jerry Cabrera, Rudy Choperena, Meghan Garety, Alex Hernandez Dueñas, Martha Hughes, Regina Scully and Eliza Thomas.
Octavia Art Gallery also recently announced the opening of a satellite office and gallery space in Houston, Texas by its director, Illa Steen Gaunt. The gallery was established in New Orleans in 2008 and showcases the work of international emerging and established contemporary artists along with modern masters, emphasizing the preservation and conservation of unique and authentic artistic cultures worldwide. The new location in Houston is a new chapter for Octavia and gallery founder Pamela Bryan hopes the second location will create a platform for not only their represented artists in Texas, but also to establish and develop relationships with emerging artists in Houston and surrounding cities such as Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Marfa.
