A Season of Dance

It was the place to be and almost all the Sociables in town were there while the exotic and glamorous lifestyle of Morocco was brought to Austin for a worthy and important cause. A Season of Dance, held at the Hilton Austin, featured a fabulous evening full of food, drink and entertainment to the hundreds that attended. Guests were treated to an exotic Moroccan bazaar featuring a tent, colorful lanterns as well as traditional Moroccan belly-dancers provided by Phara’s Mediterranean Cuisine. The really cool part? Aerial dancers from Blue Lapis light created a “Sands of Time” dance specifically for this event, in which they defied gravity in fluid and graceful movements on ribbons of silk. Capping off the evening was a live-auction and the “Fund-A-Need” drive that raised over $160,000 from event attendees. The event, co-chaired by Shannon Schmitz and Andrea Valko raised a record almost half a million dollars for the Austin Children’s Shelter which provides a much-needed safe home and support for children and young adults to the age of 22 who have experienced loss, trauma, abuse or neglect in their lives. Cheers to the hard working folks and the numerous volunteers at the ACS that made this evening possible.
