DKR Fund’s Links And Lyrics 4th & Goal Gala Launches Social Season

THE SCENE:  In the game of society and high caliber philanthropy, a touchdown was scored with the Darrell K. Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease’ Links and Lyrics/Ben Crenshaw – Willie Nelson – Darrell Royal-inspired gala, held at the Austin City Limits Moody Theatre. As guests gathered at the theatre, the red carpet was rolled out and the Texas Cowboys and Texas Silver Spurs service organizations greeted each guests as they arrived for the cocktail hour. Once inside the venue, they shared a mix of stories ranging from the Texas football legend to recent summer travels.

After a delicious dinner on the ACL venue floor, the Mezzanine level opened to the public and the program continued with a spirited live auction along with captivating performances by various country artists seamlessly peppered in throughout the evening. The performances culminated in a set by country music legend Vince Gill, who captivated the audience by performing many of his classic tunes.

THE VIBE: Polo shirts by day at the Barton Creek golf tournament, Prada by night for the gala meant there was style for everyone, creating a warm and welcoming environment for which Texans are world-renowned. The gala featured a mix of chic cocktail dresses for the ladies, while many of the men got into the country music spirit – boots, hats, and all.

THE CAUSE: The event, co-chaired by the duo of Ava Late and Debbie Hanna, raised over $1 million for the Darrell K. Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease, which enables preventive care and treatment strategies in fighting Alzheimer’s Disease in Texas, with the ultimate goal of curing it within our lifetime. In addition to the funds raised also, the DKR fund also awarded five different grants to develop advance scientific research in Texas and in addition, the organization announced the establishment of a $25,000 permanent endowment to the Austin chapter of the Texas Council on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders. The Edith Royal Caregiver Support Fund will provide the vital education and support for those caring for a loved one afflicted with this terrible disease.
