Rising Opera Stars Feted At Gathering
The Scene: Held at the home of Marie Halff, “An Evening of Songs, Arias and Duets” offered sparkling cocktails and treats to the guests who gathered at dusk to celebrate San Antonio’s rising opera stars.
The Vibe: Inside, guests mingled among the works of art that adorned the home’s walls. Outside, as the sun set, the stars came out in full force when soprano Susannah Biller, tenor David Portillo, and pianist Timothy Todd Simmons, took to the stage. Artistic Director Tobias Picker served as master of ceremonies, as Founder and Chairman of the Board Mel Weingart guided guests from the buffet dinner to an intimate outdoor performance area where orange and gold-hued flowers, graciously provided by Sue Paciocco and Alamo Plants & Petals, blanketed the venue.
The Cause: The evening raised funds for the The Opera San Antonio, a resident company of the Tobin Center dedicated enhancing the reputation of performing arts in San Antonio through education, engagement, and world-class productions of compelling operatic masterpieces past and present. The soiree will also support a semi-staged production of Dvořák’s Rusalka that was in collaboration with the San Antonio Symphony at the Majestic Theatre.
